The museum exerts itself to investigate the prehistoric and ancient cultures in Busan and Gyeongnam, and has continuously conducted surveys and excavations of the cultural properties in the regions.
 
 
  Sep. 1964 excavated the Nongso-ri shell midden of Gimhae (Neolithic).
  Aug. 1966 excavated the Dadaepo shell midden of Busan (Neolithic).

  Dec. 1971 excavated the Oryundae ancient tombs of Busan (Gaya)

  Dec. 1972 excavated the Hwamyeong-dong ancient tombs of Busan (Gaya).

  Dec. 1973ˇ­Jan. 1974 conducted the first and second excavations of the ancient tombs in the Michuwangreung (Tomb of King Michu) District, Gyeongju (early Silla).
